Understanding Hospice and Palliative Care
Hospice and palliative care are similar and vary primarily in the timing and location of care. Hospice provides for the terminally ill patient in the last six months of life when the goal of care changes from cure to comfort. Palliative care focuses on relieving suffering and improving quality of life for people at any stage of serious illness. Both hospice and palliative care rely on a team approach to provide expert medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support tailored to the person’s needs and wishes.
